Need Help Getting Started with Linux on My Chromebook

I'm really new to computers and coding, so bear with me! I've been looking into playing some low-demand puzzle games on my Chromebook, and it seems like I have to use Linux for that. I'm not quite sure where to begin. Can anyone give me a simple overview or point me toward some resources? More specifically, I'm trying to import a zip file into Linux, unpack it, and run the game. Thanks a lot for any help!

You might want to check out the 'Explaining Computers' guide for some great tips. But your question is a bit vague. Are you asking if your system can run Linux, how to install it, or how to use it? I’d suggest clarifying what you’re after to get better help!

I appreciate the tip! I actually downloaded Linux already, but I'm having trouble with importing a zip file into the Linux app to unpack and run it. Hopefully, that clears things up!

Are you talking about the Linux app that can run on Chrome OS? It can be a bit confusing because Linux is actually a whole operating system and not just an app. If possible, consider installing a full version of Linux on your Chromebook for a smoother experience.

You might find our resources page really handy! Just make sure to take regular backups and maybe try some commands in a virtual machine first to avoid any unexpected issues. Start small and understand what each command does before hitting Enter!

First things first, make sure your Chromebook can actually run the games you're interested in – they might require more power than you think. Chromebooks can be a bit underwhelming in terms of hardware, but if your games are low on graphics and size, you might be okay.
