Need Help Upgrading My AMD Build: Motherboard and PSU Queries

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my PC, focusing primarily on getting a new motherboard and power supply in the next week. Currently, I'm rocking an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, and I'm wondering if there are any motherboards compatible with the AM4 socket that support DDR5 memory. Or is it just that nothing in the 5000 series supports DDR5? I'm eyeing the Asus TUF Gaming B550-PLUS, but I'd be okay with sticking to DDR4 if necessary.

As for my power supply, I have a basic 650W Bronze unit from my original build, and I'm unsure about what PSU I should get. Also, I've got questions about the compatibility between motherboard connectors and the PSU. I'd really appreciate any insights! Here are my current specs for reference:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- MOBO: ASRock B550M-HDV
- RAM: 32GB Corsair DDR4-3596
- Graphics: XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Radeon RX 6600 8GB
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120SE
- Memory: Samsung 980 Pro 2TB NVMe
- OS: Windows 11
- Case: Fractal Focus 2

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah, the AM4 platform is strictly DDR4, and the whole 5000 series won't work with DDR5 either. If you're gaming primarily, the RX 6600 is the slower component right now, so you might want to prioritize a GPU upgrade over the motherboard or PSU.

Your current PSU should be fine unless you're planning a major upgrade, but looking into modular options down the line could help with cable management.

Unfortunately, the AM4 socket only supports DDR4, so upgrading to a motherboard with DDR5 isn't an option. If you're not facing any real issues with your current setup, upgrading your motherboard might not offer any performance boost since it's still capable of running your CPU pretty well.

Regarding your PSU, a 650W Bronze should be adequate for your current specs and even a GPU upgrade. Unless you’re experiencing specific problems, you might want to hold off on these upgrades for now.
