Hey everyone! I currently own an RX 7800 XT and I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from the Intel Core i5-13400F. I have an MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4 motherboard. I'm a bit lost on what to choose and I feel like those bottleneck calculators are pretty unreliable. I'd really appreciate any advice from seasoned PC builders. Thanks a lot!

I just upgraded from a 12400F to a 14600KF and noticed a decent performance boost. It was an easy drop-in upgrade since I had a 240mm AIO cooler already. If you're looking for a worthy upgrade, the 14600KF could be a solid choice!
If you want to stay with LGA1700, go for the i5-14600KF. But if you're thinking long-term, consider switching to AM5. It'll support new CPUs for the next few years, like the Ryzen 7000 series, which would be a great fit for future-proofing your system.
So I guess I'll need a new motherboard too? Ugh, upgrading feels like a complex puzzle! Building was fun, but choosing the right parts is stressing me out.
The good news is, many of your existing parts like the case, PSU, and maybe even the cooler can be reused in a new build, which helps save some costs.
Good point! I should've checked that my motherboard doesn’t support newer generations. But thanks! The i5-14600KF looks promising!
First, figure out if you're actually CPU-bound in the games you play. If your CPU usage hits 100% while your GPU isn't fully utilized, then an upgrade is more crucial.
Yeah, some of my games peg the CPU at 100%, while the GPU is sitting idle. Definitely need to consider an upgrade.
Your current CPU is actually still decent. If you do decide to upgrade, keep in mind that you might need a new motherboard and RAM, especially since I think this platform has limited options going forward. I'm sticking with my i5 13400 for now since most of my games are more GPU-intensive at 1440p, so I don’t feel the need to rush an upgrade.
So did I mess up by choosing this motherboard, then?
Honestly, your CPU isn’t bad at all. The LGA1700 platform is pretty stagnant right now, and you're mostly limited to lower-end i5 processors for upgrades. I'd say your setup should be fine for now!
Thanks for the input! That gives me some peace of mind.
Should I definitely go for the 14600KF then? My previous PC builder was super knowledgeable, but now I'm kind of winging it.
