I recently had two free subscriptions, and they usually cancel themselves when they expire. For some reason, these didn't cancel as expected. I deleted one of the apps before the subscription period ended, and I thought I had canceled it, but the other subscription unexpectedly renewed. I discovered this when I tried to download a new app and kept getting directed to a billing problem. I've attempted to get a refund about five times, but Apple hasn't processed it. What options do I have?

Generally, I’ve never seen a free subscription cancel automatically. I always make it a point to go to the App Store and cancel them as soon as I start. It’s safer that way!
At the end of the day, Apple isn’t responsible for canceling your subscriptions. It’s on you to make sure you handle them before they renew.
If you can't download apps due to billing issues, it might be because of unpaid charges on your account. Apple likely covered the renewal since you didn't cancel, but now they want that payment before you can access the App Store again. Just deleting the app doesn’t cancel the subscription—you have to handle that yourself. The auto-cancellation might happen if your payment fails multiple times, which is frustrating.
You might want to reach out to your bank if there are payment issues. That could clear things up.
I used Cash App for that.

I don't know, I've had some free subscriptions, especially for VPNs, that seem to auto-cancel after time. But it's always good to keep an eye on it.
