Need Help with BIOS Update and VDM Issues on My MSI Laptop

Hey everyone, I'm having a tough time trying to update my BIOS on my MSI laptop from the 2024 version to the 2025 one. The problem is with VDM. My Windows only boots when VDM is DISABLED, but whenever I try to update the BIOS, it automatically enables VDM. This causes my laptop to face an 'inaccessible boot device' error, preventing me from completing the update. I really want to undervolt my CPU, but I've heard that a BIOS update is necessary for that. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks!

If you're getting that 'inaccessible boot device' error, it’s likely due to VMD settings kicking in after the update. Most laptops will reset some settings post-update, so make sure after you update, check BIOS settings right away. Sometimes, you might need to manually set the SATA mode to AHCI. If you can't locate that setting, take a look at the documentation for your specific laptop model, or there may be video guides online that can help you navigate the BIOS interface.

Also, I found this image of my BIOS settings. I don't see the option for ACHI anywhere! Any tips?

Sometimes, the option might be buried under another menu. Keep digging—it could be there!

Just a heads up, a BIOS update won't automatically allow undervolting on laptops since they tend to have more limitations compared to desktop boards. First, double-check if the new BIOS actually allows undervolting for your specific model. To update your BIOS, follow the standard process: visit the support site for your laptop, download the latest BIOS version, and install it directly from the BIOS interface. After you apply the update, if VMD is enabled by default, reboot and go back into BIOS to switch it to AHCI. That should help you boot properly again!

I downloaded the 2025 BIOS for my model and tried updating it, but it kept turning off and on three times, then I got an error. Any idea what might be going wrong?

I’m also struggling to find where to set it to AHCI. Can someone guide me?
