Need Help with Low Wi-Fi Speeds on My New PC

I just built a new PC and I'm not very experienced with mechanical keyboards. I have a Ryzen 5 4600G paired with an MSI A520M-A Pro motherboard. After installing all the necessary drivers, I'm still facing significant Wi-Fi issues. While I usually get over 100 Mbps on my other devices, this PC barely reaches 20 Mbps. I'm on a 5GHz connection and using a 5G Wi-Fi dongle. Anyone have ideas on how to boost my Wi-Fi speed? Also, any suggestions for a reliable Wi-Fi dongle that would work with my motherboard?

Could you give more details? The distance from your router is about 25 feet, correct? Obstructions like walls or furniture could be causing issues too. Also, what model is your current dongle? A lot of people use smaller size dongles that really aren’t great for performance.

Yes, it’s 25 feet away with a door and a wall in between. I'm using a Foxin dongle that supports 150 Mbps. Would swapping to a dongle with an antenna make a noticeable difference, or is getting a second router in my room a better plan?

First off, make sure that all the signal cables are properly connected if you had it assembled by a store. Sometimes it’s an oversight from the build process that can affect the performance. But since you mentioned it was done by the shop, let's look at other options.

I checked and everything is connected as it should be.

Have you tried connecting your PC to the router with an Ethernet cable? It might not be ideal due to distance, but it could give you a huge speed boost if you can make it work.

The router is about 25 feet away, so I can’t easily connect an Ethernet cable.

I recommend testing with another Wi-Fi USB device. Often, the problem can be due to the internal Wi-Fi antenna not being attached or having incorrect drivers. Also, have you considered that using a dongle with an antenna might improve your connection if it’s compatible with your motherboard?

I’ve got the drivers installed correctly. Do you think a dongle with an antenna would help more than what I have?
