I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server for me and a few friends and I'm having some trouble with port forwarding. I have a BGW320-500 from AT&T that I'm using as a modem, and it's connected to an Orbi router. I've watched some tutorials and followed the steps, but when I check if port 25565 is open, it comes back as closed. I suspect the issue might be related to using an external router instead of just relying on the BGW320-500. My computer, named Fendi_Nabi, runs the Minecraft server, but I'm not sure whether I need to set the port forwarding on my computer or if it should be set on the modem or router. It sounds like your BGW might still be routing along with your Orbi, which could cause conflicts. Make sure your port forwarding rules are set up correctly. Generally, you want to do something like this: Source: Any:Any, Destination: WAN address:25565, Internal: Server LAN address:25565. This will forward traffic on port 25565 from your public IP to your internal server on the same port. Also, check if your BGW is owned by you or if it's an ISP device. If it’s the latter, see if you can get them to switch it to "modem" mode. Just remember to be careful when opening ports!
I had a similar issue! I found that using the gaming section of the BGW, which has presets for games like Minecraft, really helped. Just ensure you set it in passthrough mode and confirm the corresponding settings on the Orbi as well. It might need port forwarding too!
