I'm on the hunt for a solid external SSD with a capacity of over 9TB. I'm mainly looking to use it for editing, music production, and some AI projects that require storing large datasets. I've noticed there's a huge range of prices and features available, and I could really use recommendations on which brands or sites to buy from. What do you think is worth the price, especially since some options can get as expensive as an extra $1,000?

If you seriously want that kind of capacity and don’t mind dropping some cash, consider building a NAS! Those USB drives that claim to be huge are often a rip-off. An enclosure with individual drives is way better for performance and reliability.
First off, just to clarify, SSDs and hard drives are not the same. Hard drives are great for backups since they’re cheaper per TB and keep data stable when powered off, but for speed—especially for the tasks you mentioned—SSDs are definitely the way to go. If you're going for external options, consider different enclosures or even NAS setups for flexibility. Lots to explore!
Are you set on SSD? Just curious. If you plan to back your data up, which is wise, be cautious with portable drives—they're handy for transferring data, but I wouldn’t rely on them for long-term storage. Anyone else feel the same?
Yeah, I thought about that! Some drives advertise backup features but I wonder if they really work as advertised. What do you think?
