Need Recommendations for Lightweight Linux on Old Laptop After Theft

Hi everyone! I'm sorry if my English isn't great—it's not my first language. I was recently assaulted and my laptop was stolen, which is really stressful because I have important exams coming up. I can't afford a new laptop, but I found an old Compaq Presario CQ50-103LA lying around. It has an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core processor, 160 GB hard drive, and 2 GB RAM. It's quite outdated, but it's all I have right now to study. I installed Antix 32-bit on it, but I'm having trouble with Firefox, so I'm using Falkon instead. My question is: is Antix the best Linux distribution for this old laptop? And is it okay to run a 32-bit version? Any advice would be appreciated!

Your CPU can actually support 64-bit, so I recommend going with a 64-bit distribution. MX-Linux is a great option for low-powered machines; it worked well for me on even older hardware. Also, if you can, consider upgrading the RAM to the maximum 8 GB. That'll make a huge difference, and if you can, swapping out the hard drive for an SSD would be a game changer for speed.

You might want to try Bodhi Linux 7.0 HWE. It's known to work well on older machines like yours and should run nicely with your 64-bit Athlon X2, even with just 2 GB of RAM. Plus, it comes with Chromium, which might solve your browser issues!
