New HDD Installation Made a Loud Noise – What Could Be Wrong?

I just installed a brand new WD Black 6TB 3.5" hard drive, and it was quiet during setup. However, after closing the case and restarting my PC, it started making a loud noise, which is really stressing me out. I'm worried that I might damage my new HDD! Has anyone experienced this, and what could be causing it? I'd love some advice on what to check or do next!

If you can't return it, just make sure everything’s secured. Try tightening the mounting screws since sometimes it can just be vibrations. If the noise persists, unfortunately, it might be a sign of a failing drive, and you should consider getting a replacement.

It might not be the HDD itself creating the noise. It sounds like a fan could be grinding against a cable. If it were the drive failure, you'd likely know it by now! Check if any cables are interfering with your fans.

You were totally right! I checked and one of the cables was indeed hitting the fan blade. I moved it, and now it's much quieter, thanks for your help!

That noise you're hearing is likely from the heads parking or a loose cable. I had a similar issue, and just reseating the cables resolved the noise for me.
