New Laptop Won’t Update Completely – What Should I Do?

I just got a new laptop from Amazon that's running Windows 11. After starting it up, I noticed it needed to update, and I proceeded with the update notification that appeared in the system tray. Once I completed the updates, I saw that the little update icon was still stuck there, indicating there are updates pending. To make matters worse, I'm unable to factory reset the laptop since every attempt results in a failure message and a restart. Should I consider returning this laptop? It was purchased directly from Amazon, so I'm pretty confused about why a new device would have these issues. Any suggestions?

Before you return it, check out the Windows troubleshooting support page for a detailed guide on fixing update issues. It could have some helpful steps that might resolve the problem without needing to send it back. You might want to give the Windows update troubleshooter a shot! Sometimes it helps clear these glitches. Also, make sure to restart your laptop after the updates; that’s often the key step to making everything stick. If all else fails and the issues persist, it could be time to consider a return.

I did restart it, thanks for the tip!

If the issues keep happening, returning it is a reasonable option. It’s a new laptop, so it should work out of the box. Just keep in mind to check your settings and run the troubleshooter first before deciding to return it.

Factory resetting might complicate things further, especially if you haven't rebooted after the updates. Usually, that little icon sticks around until everything has been properly installed. A simple restart might do the trick, so give that a try first!
