Hey everyone, I've been working as a WSUS admin for ages and usually, it's best to leave it be if it's stable. But recently, I've noticed something strange. My logs are indicating a **60% increase** in WSUS-related issues in the past three months — this isn't just rookie mistakes; even seasoned SCCM and WSUS users are reporting syncing and patching problems. With that in mind, I have a few questions:
- Are more new admins struggling with WSUS, or is there something actually changing with how Microsoft manages updates?
- Is this a random spike, or are people on certain update cycles experiencing more issues?
- Has anyone else seen this trend?
I haven't managed a live WSUS in a while, so I'm curious about what you're all experiencing. Is this a new normal or just a coincidence?

I think the size of the updates is a real issue. The latest updates for Windows 11 have been massive, and WSUS wasn’t really built for handling such large files. It might slow things down significantly. If you look at the infrastructure and internet capabilities now, though, they have improved a lot since WSUS came out, which could mitigate some of the issues.
That makes sense. It's important to check how processing is being handled overall because even with bigger updates, our performance seems to be okay.
In my experience, WSUS is still pretty reliable. Yes, the recent delivery of Windows 11 updates was a hassle, but keeping up with maintenance and cleanup usually keeps everything running smoothly. I might be in the minority, but regular checks really help!
I've had troubles too! The July update messed with several of my clients. It’s tough when you rely on WSUS to coordinate.
After the cleanup, have you found everything returned to normal? My guess is it could just be those updates causing some chaos.
No issues on our end. We’re still patching through WSUS on Server 2016 and plan to upgrade eventually. It’s been consistent here, especially sticking to that server setup.
Glad to hear that! It looks like the latest issues are more prominent with the newer versions of Windows.
True, but I find that the CU updates for Server 2016 are even larger and I haven't faced any major issues. The only problem I had was the speed of updates, but that’s another topic.
