Noticing Performance Issues After Upgrading to a 3080 Ti

Hey everyone! I just upgraded from an RX 6700 (non-XT) to a 3080 Ti, and I expected a significant boost in gaming performance, but I'm not seeing the results I hoped for. I've tested some games like Cyberpunk (without ray tracing), Sifu, and Elden Ring at 1440p with max settings, but I'm struggling to maintain a stable 60 FPS. Most of the time, I'm getting close to that frame rate, but it often drops. My current specs include an RTX 3080 Ti, Intel i5 12400F, 16GB of 2666MHz RAM (single stick), and an Asrock H610M motherboard which can't provide more than 65W to the CPU. I'm considering upgrading my RAM to two 16GB sticks at 3200MHz CL16, but I'm also thinking about a new CPU and motherboard. Would it be better to just upgrade the RAM first and see how that goes? Any thoughts?

I think your CPU is okay for now, but the motherboard is kind of a bottleneck. The 12400F, although decent, won't give you the best potential out of the 3080 Ti. Upgrading to a faster RAM setup should provide immediate gains. After that, you might consider a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or a newer Intel CPU if needed.

Motherboard upgrades can really help with performance scaling, especially if you can get a chipset that supports faster CPUs.

Definitely keep the motherboard in mind for the long run. It’ll open up your options for future upgrades!

Your configuration is not ideal right now due to that slow single stick of RAM. Try to grab another 16GB stick, ideally the same speed for dual-channel, and that should help out a lot. If things are still not where you want them, look at a motherboard upgrade to access better CPUs.

Dual-channel RAM will make a world of difference, especially in gaming!

I had a similar experience, and once I upgraded my RAM, everything smoothed out.

You're definitely feeling the effects of that single-channel RAM. I suggest getting another stick of the same speed first. After that, reevaluate your needs based on performance improvements. A better CPU will help as well, but start with the RAM upgrade.

Starting with RAM makes sense; it's the easiest upgrade and can yield immediate results.

For the CPU upgrade, I'd consider something that pairs well with your new RAM setup!

Your single stick of slower RAM is a big bottleneck in your setup. Upgrading to a dual-channel configuration with faster RAM should definitely improve your performance. Consider getting 2x16GB of 3200MHz CL16 or even 3600MHz if you can swing it. After that, reassess your CPU options if you're still not hitting your target frames.

Yeah, definitely do the RAM first! Dual-channel memory can make a huge difference in gaming, especially with newer titles.

If you still need more performance afterwards, look into a better CPU and motherboard combo.
