I'm looking to play Skyrim and I'm having trouble getting Mod Organizer 2 to work, despite trying various guides. I'm considering using WinBoat to install and run modded Skyrim, but I'm curious about how much of a performance drop I can expect. My PC isn't very powerful, equipped with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, an Intel Iris Xe integrated GPU, and an Intel-1240P processor.

Running Skyrim through WinBoat might lead to significant performance drops, primarily because you won't have GPU acceleration. If your PC isn't that strong to begin with, I'd expect a pretty noticeable dip in performance. You might want to consider dual booting with Windows, especially if you're not getting anywhere with Win11 and its bootloader issues.

What exactly is MO2? I keep hearing about it.

MO2 stands for Mod Organizer 2, which is a tool for managing mods in Skyrim. It's pretty popular among modders for getting things set up smoothly.

If you're having trouble with Mod Organizer 2 in your current setup, one option is to configure your Skyrim installation through WinBoat and then switch to Linux for actual gameplay. That way, you might get better performance since Linux often runs more efficiently than Windows in some cases.

There’s a general overhead with virtual machines that you should keep in mind. The lack of GPU acceleration will complicate your gaming experience even more. If you're set on using WinBoat, definitely manage your expectations regarding gameplay.
