Performance Issues with Expedition 33 – Is This Normal?

I'm really enjoying Expedition 33 but I'm having some performance concerns that I'm hoping to clarify. Here are my specs: CPU - 9950x3d, GPU - 5090 FE, and 64GB of DDR5 6000 RAM. I'm playing at 3440 x 1440 resolution with all graphics settings on Epic, DLAA and VSync enabled, and frame generation turned off. During the prologue, I'm getting around 80-90 FPS, but I notice my 1% lows drop to about 50-55 FPS occasionally. Both my CPU and GPU stay below 60 degrees, so I don't think it's a thermal problem. Given the variability in hardware and software, I'm curious if my performance is typical, or if there might be an underlying issue. Also, does anyone have tips to fix the random drops to 50 FPS every few seconds? I've already tried closing all background programs, removing overlays, disabling power monitoring in Afterburner, and checking CPU core parking. Any insight would be appreciated!

From what I can tell, Expedition 33 isn't the best optimized game out there. I had a similar experience on my setup, and I was shocked to see how much better Cyberpunk runs on the same hardware. Optimization issues seem to be common with this title, so you're not alone in feeling that way.

Honestly, you might want to reduce some settings for a better experience. 4K isn't that far off from 1440p UW, but it seems Unreal Engine 5 isn't handling this game as well as it could. Those FPS drops are likely tied to the game's optimization. It's frustrating, I know!

This game does have its share of performance issues. Surprising for modern titles, but it happens. You might want to keep an eye on updates or patches that could address these hitches. Here’s a link I found with benchmarks: techpowerup.com/review/clair-obscur-expedition-33-performance-benchmark/5.html.

Yep, make sure you check GPU-Z to confirm it's running at PCIE-5.0 x16. That could impact performance. Sometimes, just a slight bottleneck there can affect FPS significantly.
