I graduated with a BEng in Software Engineering this past July in London, but since then, I've struggled to land any role in the field. I'm currently working in retail, but programming and problem-solving are my true passions. I've heard horror stories of graduates going years without jobs, and I genuinely fear that happening to me. The thought of doing retail work for the long term is daunting.

Did you get any internships during your degree? Having tech-related experience can really help. If not, how many jobs have you applied to since graduating? If your background is just your degree, you may need to apply widely and accept anything to get your foot in the door.
Consider contributing to open-source projects. It's a great way to build a work history without being formally employed. This experience can make you more appealing to employers and show that you're proactive.

Not sure if that's the best advice. Open-source contributions rarely count as work experience in the eyes of employers. While it’s good for practice, you might want to focus on real job applications instead.
