Setting Up Mirrored Drives for Backup: Is It Possible?

I recently switched to a Mac and got a USB-C dual drive to complement my existing USB-A drive that I've been using to store files. Since I plan to carry my Mac around, I want to ensure I have a backup in case I misplace the drive. Is it feasible to set up the new drive as the primary and use the old drive as a live backup? Can I still remove the primary drive whenever I need to, and will the backup process resume automatically when I reconnect it? Thanks for any insights!

Mirrored drives need both disks connected to maintain that mirroring process. If you use one without the other, it won't stay mirrored anymore, and keep in mind that a mirror setup isn't a true backup. A better approach would be to use one drive for regular storage and the other drive (plus a third option if you can swing it) as a dedicated backup, backed up using software solutions. You're actually safer that way!

Good point! I just want to make sure that when I plug my portable drive back into my PC, it will back everything up automatically. Is that something I can set up easily?
