Should I Accept My First Job Offer as a DevOps Engineer?

I just landed a job offer from a hedge fund where the team is building a new data center. The position is labeled 'Infrastructure Engineer' and focuses on developing and implementing server and network infrastructure as well as scaling and operating their trading stack on AWS. I've only had experience in software development during university, with a bit of CI/CD, so I'm really unsure about jumping into the DevOps realm for my first full-time role. I'm confused about whether it's feasible to transition straight into DevOps with my background, and what the career outlook looks like in this field. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Absolutely take the offer! Jumping into DevOps can be a learning experience where you can break things and fix them. Some say getting a foundation in software or systems administration first is better, but with job market challenges, this is a golden opportunity. Even if it feels like a late-stage role, you'll gain valuable insight as a junior.

That's great advice! I'm curious, though. How would you compare long-term growth between software development and DevOps? I've heard some folks say the ceiling is lower in DevOps compared to dev roles, is that accurate?
