Should I Be Concerned About ASRock Motherboards Killing CPUs?

I just built my first PC, and I'm feeling a bit anxious after reading online about potential issues with ASRock motherboards. I have an ASRock B850 Pro-A WiFi board paired with a Ryzen 5 9600X CPU. I've seen reports that the problems seemed to relate to Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO), but ASRock released a BIOS update (version 3.25) aimed at fixing it. However, some users are still experiencing CPU deaths even after this update. Should I be worried about using this setup? For now, I booted it up briefly, and everything worked fine, but my motherboard still has BIOS version 3.20, which I need to update.

The concerns seem to mostly revolve around the X3D series CPUs. You might be alright with the 9600X. If you can return the motherboard, though, for peace of mind, I’d recommend it.

Right? It seems the X3D chips are at risk, while others might be safer.

I switched from ASRock after my last board failed to take a BIOS update. I wouldn't risk it again personally, but there's a mix of experiences out there, so do your research!

I hear you! BIOS issues can be really frustrating.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot of chatter about ASRock motherboards causing CPU failures. I’d suggest checking out ASRock subreddits; it's packed with daily reports of users losing CPUs. So, it’s not entirely settled yet—better to be cautious.

Oh no, that’s not what I wanted to hear!

Man, I'm using a Gigabyte B850—think I'm safe?

Honestly, it’s hard to tell if the remaining complaints are from people who didn't update or issues lingering despite the updates. Some users are still reporting problems even after updating to 3.25, so if you’re nervous, you might want to consider another brand.

I've seen similar reports; it might be a good idea to play it safe.

I've been using an ASRock x870 Pro RS WiFi with a 9800X3D for months without any issues. It's a tough call, but you might be okay with your 9600X, especially since you can update to the latest BIOS.

Glad to hear that! Makes me feel a bit better.

Same here, I’ve had good luck with mine too!
