Should I buy a 5070 Ti for $950 while I’m unemployed?

Hey everyone! I currently have a 3070 graphics card that's starting to fail on me due to driver issues; it crashes once or twice a day when I'm gaming. A friend gave me the 3070 as a gift, which was fantastic because it marked a major upgrade from my old 2060, but with its current state, I need to think about options. I'm currently out of work, so I'm hesitant to spend a lot of money on a full PC right now, but I've been wanting an upgrade for a while. I'm considering purchasing a 5070 Ti for $950 while I still can, and just keeping it until I can save up for a new PC build around it. Alternatively, I could just stick with my current setup for another year or two and hope prices stabilize. What do you all think? Thanks!

If you’re looking at a 5070 Ti, I’d suggest buying used or looking for cheaper alternatives like the 9070 XT. It performs similarly without the hefty price tag, and you don’t want to blow that cash when you're in a tight spot.

True, you could probably snag a good deal on used hardware.

Yeah, I think I'd do more research to find what's best for my budget.

Honestly, spending $950 on a $750 graphics card when you're unemployed seems risky. Gaming isn't a necessity, so saving your cash for bills should be your priority. You might need that money for emergencies down the line.

Totally agree! It's tough to think about new builds when finances are tight.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat; just gotta ride out with my older setup until I have a stable income.

Girl, you're unemployed, so hold off on that GPU. Just stick with what you've got until your situation improves. You really shouldn't be buying extras right now.

I appreciate the honesty—they're right. It's a tough call, but it makes sense.

Same here. I had to wait until my rig was crashing all the time before I finally upgraded.

First off, make sure your current problems aren't fixable. Sometimes it's a driver issue instead of the GPU literally dying.

TechSage -

That definitely makes sense! A fresh install might just do the trick.

And if it is a hardware issue, consider downgrading temporarily if your old 2060 still works.

I'd say wait it out; new GPUs will eventually be released, and prices could drop. Just hang tight with what you have until you can afford a full system without stressing your finances.

FrugalFinder -

Absolutely! It’s more sensible to prioritize your finances over gaming.

SmartSaver91 -

Exactly! No point in risking financial stability for a GPU.
