Should I buy the Asus RTX 5080 Prime OC now or wait for the Super version?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out whether I should go for the RTX 5080 since I'm upgrading my setup, but still using my old Asus GTX 1080 Ti ROG. I was hoping to wait for the Creator (ProArt) version to match everything, but that seems like it's going to take forever. The 5080 is already about half a year old, and by the time the Creator version drops, it'll be even older, making the price feel unjustifiable. I'm also wondering if I should hold out for the 'Super' variant due to its potentially better VRAM, although I suspect that might come with a higher price tag and the usual supply problems. Just for context, I'm an everyday user who occasionally plays games like Red Alert 2 and Space Marine 2 on a 4K 120 Hz monitor. Thanks for any advice!

If you’re mainly playing less demanding games, the regular 5080 should serve you well for a while—you won’t need to stress too much about waiting for a Super version right now.

Honestly, the 5080 feels overpriced this generation. It runs about $1300 but only offers around 10% more performance than the 5070 Ti. If you're in a pinch for a GPU, consider the 5070 Ti for ray tracing and DLSS. If that's not your thing, the 9070 XT might be a better option overall.

Thanks! The 5070 Ti seems like a solid choice.

The 5080 has great overclocking potential, getting close to a stock 4090, so there's that!

The price hike for the 5080 compared to the 5070 Ti just doesn’t add up, especially with them both having the same VRAM. It might be worth considering your actual gaming needs here.

I typically upgrade every other series. I just grab the 80 series about six months after release, and that’s been good enough for me! But hey, sometimes it's about what fits your needs!

Do we have any idea when the 5080 Super is set to release? I'm in pretty much the same boat as you!

I've heard it'll be early 2026, but who knows for sure?

If you can hold off, you might get the 5080 at a lower price or even the Super version, which is rumored to outperform the 4090!

Well, I wish I could predict the future on this one! But yes, I'm with you on waiting... it can feel annoying not knowing what to do.
