Should I Choose 16GB or 32GB DDR5 RAM for My New PC Build?

I'm considering building a new PC with the following specs: an AMD Ryzen 7600X processor, a Radeon 9070 GPU, a mid-range air cooler, a B650M motherboard, a 750W PSU, and a 1TB Hikvision NVMe M.2 SSD, all housed in an Ant Esports 411 air cabinet. I'm debating whether to go for 16GB DDR5 RAM or invest in 32GB instead. Additionally, I'm thinking about upgrading to a 9700X CPU and 9070XT GPU later, along with a better PSU and AIO cooler. Should I stick with 16GB or opt for 32GB for better performance and future-proofing?

A lot depends on what you plan to do with your setup! I have 16GB on my PC, and it works fine for gaming, especially if you manage your tasks. But if you’re into modded games or multitasking, 32GB might save you some headaches down the line.

I’m just gaming at 1080p right now, so I think 16GB is manageable for me.

You might want to consider the upgrades seriously before diving into 32GB RAM. Most games run fine with 16GB as long as you're not pushing a lot of other programs simultaneously. If you're mainly gaming, investing in a better GPU might give you more bang for your buck right now.

Exactly! I’d rather upgrade my GPU than overspend on RAM that I might not need.

I really think you should go for 32GB. Nowadays, 16GB is becoming the minimum, and having 32GB will ensure your system stays fast and responsive longer. You might notice performance dips or stutters with just 16GB in the long run, especially in demanding applications or games.

I hear you, but I plan to upgrade to 32GB later on. For now, I just want solid performance.

Honestly, I disagree. I’ve used both 16GB and 32GB, and the difference isn’t that big for most games – more of a placebo effect, really.

I say if you're on a budget, getting 16GB DDR4 might even be a better route than 16GB DDR5 right now. You won’t notice a huge difference in most games, especially if you can manage your memory usage well.

Good point! I think I’ll just keep an eye on prices and see what I can afford.
