Hey everyone! I'm currently building a new PC and have selected some pretty solid components: a GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE ICE motherboard, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, KINGSTON 32GB 5600 AMD EXPO RAM, and an RTX 5070 graphics card. I also have a H9 Flow Case and a 360mm AIO cooler.
Now, I'm trying to decide on an SSD. I'm considering getting a 1TB Gen4 Kingston SSD along with a Gen3 250 or 512GB drive for Windows and applications. However, I've noticed that there are Gen5 1TB SSDs available for nearly the same price. For gaming and video editing (I occasionally edit clips with friends), do you think it's worth it to invest in Gen5, or should I stick with Gen4? I only have a HDD at the moment, which is quite slow, especially since my current 250GB SSD is filled with Windows and games. For the Gen5 option, I'm looking at the 1TB Crucial T705 without a heatsink. Thanks for any advice!

You actually might not need a separate drive for Windows and apps. Since a Gen5 SSD is around the same price, it could definitely benefit video editing. But honestly, there’s little to no difference when it comes to gaming performance. Go for the best deal that fits your budget!
For your needs, it probably won’t make much difference. If you're doing more gaming than large file transfers or single large items, any NVMe SSD will do just fine! Gen4 and Gen5 differ mostly in sequential speeds which only really impact specific workloads.

I get what you mean, but separating your drive for Windows and storage sounds convenient! If you feel more comfortable with that, then maybe get a 2TB Gen4 instead. That can give you enough space without messing with multiple drives.
