Should I Choose a New GeForce RTX 5070 or a Used RTX 3080?

I'm in the process of building a new PC and I'm looking at the GeForce RTX 5070, which retails for about $550 to $600. I also found a used RTX 3080 with 12GB for around $350 on the marketplace. Is the performance difference significant enough to warrant choosing the 5070 over the 3080, especially considering the price gap?

The RTX 3080 12GB is good, but honestly, I'd cap the price around $300. It's worth checking its performance with Furmark or 3D Mark to ensure it runs smoothly without issues.

The 5070 is actually closer to the 3080 Ti in terms of performance rather than just the 3080. It’s more efficient with power usage, has enhanced features, and you’d get warranty support with the new card. Only you can decide if that extra cost is worth it, though!

The 5070 provides around a 20% performance boost in rasterization compared to the 3080. Plus, it supports frame generation, ray tracing, and advanced DLSS, giving it an edge in newer gaming scenarios.

While both cards are good, remember that the RTX 5070 is better on performance and has newer tech. But saving $200 for an older used card might not be the smartest choice, especially if it’s out of warranty. I’d go for the new card, personally.
