Should I Choose a Newer CPU Model for My Gaming PC Upgrade?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade the CPU in my gaming rig, which I've had for about 5 years. Currently, I'm running a Ryzen 5 3600 with 32GB of DDR4 3600 MHz RAM, a Corsair 750W power supply, a B450 motherboard, and an RTX 3060 12GB. I'm not looking to switch to AM5 just yet, mainly due to the ongoing RAM shortage.

I'm considering either a Ryzen 7 5700X or a Ryzen 7 5800XT. They're pretty much at the top of my budget, and it seems like their performance is almost identical based on my research. The key difference is the release date: the 5700X came out in Q1 2022, while the 5800XT was launched in Q3 2024.

I'm wondering if it's worth spending an extra $30-40 on the newer model. Will the 5800XT offer better long-term support, BIOS updates, or any other advantages?

Both of these CPUs are nearly identical but have slightly different boost clocks and power ratings. In terms of gaming performance, you can expect just about a 4% difference between the three CPUs. Essentially, rebranding the 5800XT in 2024 is AMD’s way of showing they’re still releasing new products on the AM4 platform.
