Hey everyone! I'm new to the PC world and I've set up a decent system for my 8-year-old daughter. The last piece I need is a display. I went a bit over budget on everything else, so I'm trying to keep costs down here. From what I've read, it seems like 180Hz is ideal for gaming, but most basic monitors from brands like Dell and HP only have a refresh rate between 60-80Hz. I know I'll want to upgrade in the future.
I've been exploring the differences between monitors and TVs. It looks like TVs might not be great for text visibility up close. My daughter mostly plays Minecraft (with some light mods), Roblox, and watches YouTube and Netflix.
So, my main question is: will a 24-32" TV (like an ONN or Vizio) with 60Hz and 720p resolution be sufficient for her needs? Thanks a ton!

To utilize a 180Hz screen, you need a PC that can achieve those frame rates. For casual or single-player games, 60Hz is more than enough. I'd recommend a minimum of 1080p and 60Hz for any screen, whether it’s a monitor or TV.
I really doubt an 8-year-old will notice the difference between 60Hz and 180Hz. Just grab a cheap 1080p TV or monitor at 60Hz and let her enjoy gaming. A few years down the line, when she starts caring more about the specs, you can upgrade to something with 120Hz. By the way, definitely go for 1080p instead of 720p, as 720p can get pretty blurry on close-up screens.
Great advice, thank you! I'll be looking for a 1080p option.
A 21.5 or 24-inch 1080p monitor at 60Hz is pretty standard and would be a great choice. You can usually find them for under $100, and if you look around, you might get lucky and find one for less than $60. Just make sure to look for monitors with an IPS panel for better color quality and viewing angles. The price difference for IPS should be minimal, maybe just an extra $5-10.
What’s your price range for a monitor?
Honestly, I’m hoping to keep it under $100 for now, just to get her a decent screen. I'm planning to get her two monitors later on, but I need to figure something out quickly!

Thanks for the clarity! I will definitely aim for at least 1080p.
