Should I Choose a Used 7600X3D or a New 9600X?

I'm in the market for a new CPU and I'm torn between getting a used 7600X3D, which is 30 days old and comes with a warranty, and a brand new 9600X, both priced at €200. My current setup has a 9070 XT GPU and a 21:9 1440p monitor running at 180Hz. I plan on using the CPU for 1-2 years until I can upgrade to the upcoming ZEN 6 X3D flagship. Given that the performance of these CPUs is quite similar, what would you recommend for my gaming needs?

Definitely go for the 7600X3D! The extra cache is a big win for gaming performance. Even though it's used, with only 30 days on it, it's basically still new. For gaming, you'll appreciate the boost, especially at your resolution.

Right? The X3D can really shine with that 3D cache in gaming. Plus, with your setup, the performance will be even more noticeable. It's like getting free performance!

I agree, there’s a reason why X3D CPUs retain their value. They usually outperform their non-X3D counterparts, especially in gaming!

If the warranty is solid, there's no reason to hesitate on the 7600X3D. It’s a solid choice, especially since it's close to new and you’re getting that warranty coverage.

I’d actually suggest doing some research beyond just the gaming factor. The 9600X might perform decently for gaming, but if you do any other tasks, you might find other CPUs serve you better in the long run. If you’re gaming at higher resolutions like 1440p, the difference might not be huge—just don’t get caught up in the ‘best for gaming’ hype.

True! Unless you game at lower resolutions, there are often better all-around CPUs you can get that might fit your needs more completely.

Exactly! I learned that the hard way when I went for a high-end CPU focused solely on gaming. It limits your options for multitasking.

Don't forget about the thermal design! I have a 9600X and it runs pretty hot (70-80°C). If you're not used to those temps, consider a better cooler for better thermal performance. If you want cooler operation, just get a good cooler to go with it.

Yeah, I agree! I switched to a better cooler, and now my temps are much lower. It makes a big difference during gaming sessions!
