I'm building my first decent PC in about six months, mainly for video editing using software like DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, as well as possibly trying out Unreal Engine 5, After Effects, and Blender. I'm considering whether to go for a used RTX 4080, which seems to perform better in many tests, especially for productivity tasks, or just stick with a brand new RX 9070 XT, as both might cost around the same. I know the RTX 4080 can deliver better performance in ray tracing and other advanced features, but I'm curious if a used 4080 would be reliable compared to the new 9070 XT. My specs include an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, a 2TB Samsung SSD, and I'm wondering if the extra investment in a used GPU would pay off in my learning journey with these applications.

The RTX 4080 is generally quicker in ray tracing and has better productivity performance. While the differences in some tasks might be minimal, the 4080 has a proven track record for creators. Just keep an eye out for the pricing; it might be hard finding a used one at the same price as the 9070 XT!
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll definitely do my homework to get a good deal.
If you're mostly gaming, the RX 9070 XT would be fine. But since you’re into editing and productivity software, the RTX 4080 is the safest bet, more power for those tasks. Just be sure to check the condition if you’re going for used!

Yeah, I’ve seen used 4080s pop up for around $800, which is on par with the new 9070 XT from stores. Just make sure to review those specs closely; not all used GPUs are created equal!
