Should I choose an 850W or 1000W power supply?

I'm considering an upgrade to my power supply unit (PSU) so I can use my current one to rebuild my AM4 PC. I'm a bit concerned about power spikes from my Radeon RX 9070 XT. I'm looking at the be quiet! Pure Power 850W or the 1000W version. The price difference is just 20 CAD on Amazon, but I wonder if the 1000W is overkill for my needs at the moment. I do plan to eventually upgrade to a Ryzen 7 or an equivalent AM6 CPU and might even venture into overclocking. Here's a quick rundown of my current setup: I'm running a Ryzen 5 7600 with 16GB of RAM, and I regret not getting 32GB when I built my PC due to budget constraints. I'm holding off on a RAM upgrade until prices stabilize.

You really don’t need anything beyond 850W for your current components. In fact, you’re a bit under 500W, so 1000W is pretty much overkill. But hey, if you're okay with it, having extra wattage can be future-proof. Overkill doesn’t hurt, right?

Honestly, your current 750W PSU is doing fine. No immediate upgrade is necessary!

I once heard someone say, 'There’s no replacement for displacement.' While that was about motorcycles, it applies here too! If the extra 20 bucks doesn’t hurt your wallet now, going for the 1000W could extend the life of your PSU through future builds. Who knows, you might get a high-end GPU later on!

850W should be perfectly adequate for your needs without any issues.

If your current PSU is 750W already, I wouldn’t upgrade it unless it’s failing. But if you plan to upgrade to something like a 90 series GPU in the next 5-8 years, there are solid 1000W options that are only slightly more expensive than the 850W. I’d go for the 1000W just for the peace of mind.
