Hey everyone! I'm currently using a 7900 XTX for gaming but I'm diving more into VR, specifically with my Pimax Crystal headset. Right now, I can get the resolution running around 0.85-0.9 with FSR upscale at 87%, which looks pretty solid. However, I'm itching to push that to 100%+ resolution. I've heard about the potential of foveated rendering, but it seems that's only available on NVIDIA cards for DX11 games, which is a bummer since my Crystal has eye tracking. I have a Ryzen 9 7900X3D CPU and 32GB DDR5 RAM. I'm torn between the 4080 and 5070 Ti since their stats seem similar on paper. Here are my concerns: 1) Is there a clear winner between the 4080 and 5070 Ti? 2) Will either GPU give me enough power for what I want to achieve? 3) And finally, since the 7900 XTX has more VRAM compared to these others, will I miss that capacity and performance? Thanks for the help!

I’ve got a Ryzen 7 3500 with a 5070 Ti mobile, and it runs everything I throw at it smoothly! I get great performance at 1600p without even using FSR. But remember, while mobile GPUs are convenient, a desktop offers more upgrade options and raw power. It really depends on what you value more – portability or performance!
I've heard that NVIDIA has significant performance advantages in Assetto Corsa specifically, so if that's your main game, that could sway your decision in favor of NVIDIA.
If you can snag the 4080 for around $200 less than usual, that would be a pretty solid deal, but that's likely not happening. The 5070 Ti comes with newer features and better overclocking capabilities, so it often outpaces the 4080, despite the latter having slight advantages in ray tracing.
I'd say the 5070 Ti is the better option, especially when you consider overclocking potential. But honestly, since you already have a 7900 XTX, unless you're planning on jumping to the 5080 or 4090, it might not be worth it. Just my two cents!
NVIDIA has shown significantly better performance in VR compared to AMD's 7000 series, so if VR gaming is your main focus, upgrading would definitely make sense.

Thanks for your input! I’m mainly looking to leverage my Pimax’s dynamic foveated rendering, which only NVIDIA supports for DX11. So, upgrading seems reasonable for what I want to achieve.
