I'm in the process of building a new system and I'm torn between getting a motherboard that supports PCIe 5.0 or just going with one that has PCIe 4.0. Is there a significant performance difference between the two? My GPU is an RX 9060 XT with 16GB of memory, and I plan to game at 1440p.

A key factor is your GPU's VRAM. Since your RX 9060 XT has 16GB, you shouldn't have any issues that would require the extra bandwidth of PCIe 5.0. Focus on finding a motherboard with good Ethernet instead of just PCIe support!
If you're considering upgrading your GPU in the future, it might be worth spending a little extra for PCIe 5.0. It's not a huge price increase, and it could pay off down the line.
Honestly, right now you won't notice much of a difference between PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 for gaming. If budget is a concern, going with PCIe 4.0 makes more sense for most current setups.
Thanks for the advice! I think I'll just opt for the 4.0 and save some cash.
Right now, the difference is minimal. Only the latest GPUs and SSDs take full advantage of PCIe 5.0, and as of now, not many games fully use it either. The next generation will, so for now, it's a marginal difference and shouldn't be the main deciding factor if you're on a budget.
That makes sense! I’ll definitely stick with PCIe 4.0 and save some money.
I do plan to upgrade eventually, but probably not for another 4-5 years.
