I'm building a PC aimed at 1440P gaming and productivity, pairing it with a 7800X3D CPU. I'm expecting the GPU to give consistent performance for about 4 years. The 5070 TI seems like the better option due to its price-to-performance ratio compared to the 5080, but I'm worried that it might not hold up as well over those years. Should I spend an extra $250 on the 5080 or stick with the more economical 5070 TI? I'm really hoping to avoid changing the GPU within the next 4-5 years.

I faced this same dilemma a few weeks back and went for the 5070 TI. It's a solid value for money compared to the 5080.
Honestly, the 5080 would be way better if it had 24 GB of VRAM. As it stands, it's pretty much just a 5070 TI Super since they share the same chip and memory. If you overclock the 5070 TI, you can pretty much get performance similar to a 4080 Super at a lower price, which should hold up fine for the next four years. Unless you're playing 4K and need all the extra power, the 5070 TI seems like the smarter choice, especially given the crazy price for the 5080.
There's chatter about the 5080 Super potentially having 24 GB of VRAM and some improvements on the 5071 TI too. If you can manage with an older GPU for a bit, that might be worth considering because spending over $1000 for a GPU with only 16 GB of RAM might not last you as long as you'd want.
If you can hold out, I'd say go for the 5080 TI. It's going to last you much longer. But if you're in a hurry, I totally get it. The cheapest 5080 I've seen is around $1400, which is a lot. I doubt the 5080 TI will be much cheaper after it launches either.
Yeah, I can't wait that long. I need something for my build soon, and I can't find a 5080 for less than my max budget.
Yeah, given my timeline for needing a PC for university, I think I'll just save the cash and go with the 5070 TI. The prices for the 5080 are just too steep right now.
