Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building my new gaming PC and need some advice on which CPU to choose. I already have my power supply, RAM, motherboard, case, and SSD sorted out, but I'm stuck deciding between the 7600X for $100 and the 7700 for $130, both used. I'm using a 6950XT GPU and gaming at 1440p. My main games are War Thunder, GTA V, Warzone 2, Battlefield 6, Forza, and Farming Simulator 19. I'm particularly interested in how the single-core performance stacks up, especially considering Farming Simulator tends to be pretty unoptimized and relies heavily on a single core. I'd appreciate any thoughts!

I think the extra $30 for the 7700 is worth it. While there's not a huge performance gap, having those additional cores can help, especially for games that can utilize them. Plus, it might give you a bit more headroom for things like streaming or background tasks while gaming.
If the price difference of $30 isn't an issue for you, I'd definitely recommend going for the 7700. It has two more cores, which could improve your gaming experience by providing extra CPU overhead for multitasking and more modern games.
But does that really make a difference in gameplay?
I'd lean towards the 7700. Sure, the 7600X might outperform it in some heavily single-core dependent games, but I think with some tweaking, you can get the 7700 to match that single-core performance. Plus, the extra cores will definitely benefit you in games that can take advantage of them.

Got it! Do you know if the 7700 performs similarly to the 7600X in single-core games?
