I'm looking to upgrade from my Ryzen 7 5700X and found some good deals on eBay for the 7800X3D and 9800X3D. The prices are around £275 for the 7800X3D and £330 for the 9800X3D. I primarily play CPU-intensive games and currently use a 7800XT GPU. Do I need to be cautious about buying used processors? Is the slight price difference worth it for the 9800X3D? How well will either option pair with my existing GPU?

Both CPUs are beasts. The 9800X3D does give a slight edge in performance, especially in those heavy games. For the price difference, I’d suggest going with the 9800X3D for a little extra peace of mind on performance and better cooling options.
You probably won't notice a big difference between the two with the games you're playing right now. The 7800X3D should suffice, but if you're thinking long-term, the 9800X3D will definitely give you more flexibility with future upgrades.
In terms of your GPU setup, both CPUs will perform adequately without bottlenecking your 7800XT. The 9800X3D might be worth considering if you plan to upgrade to a higher-end GPU in the future, like a 5090 or equivalent. However, if you're just focused on current games like CS or Valorant, you might not notice much of a difference on those titles.
If you're mainly into CPU-heavy games, the 9800X3D is worth the extra £65. You'll definitely see a notable difference in performance. It's always nice to have a CPU that's going to perform well over time, especially with future gaming titles in mind.
That makes sense! I just want to make sure I'm getting good value. It's nice to hear it's a good price.
The 7800X3D is a solid choice and will work really well with your 7800XT. Honestly, the difference in performance isn't huge compared to the 9800X3D, so if you're mainly gaming, the 7800X3D is a good buy. Just keep in mind that buying used can come with risks like potential undetected damage, so make sure to check for any signs of wear when you get it.

That's good to know! I was thinking of upgrading to a 9070XT soon, so I want to make sure my CPU can keep up.
