Should I Downgrade from 4K to 1440p for Better FPS?

I'm currently using an RTX 3080 and targeting 60 fps at 4K. Most games are running decently, but I've noticed some newer titles dropping to around 40 fps. Would it be worth downgrading my resolution to get smoother frames and a more consistent gaming experience? Just for context, I'm gaming on a 28" 4K monitor, which I've heard is on the smaller side for 4K. So, would switching to a 27" 1440p monitor make a noticeable difference?

If you have DLSS available, definitely use it! It can help bridge the gap, but it's not a perfect fix for every game. Some still struggle even on balanced settings, so a switch might help. But keep that in mind if you're hesitant to downgrade. You might not need it if DLSS can keep your frames up.

I've been trying DLSS too, but even then some games dip below 60 fps. So I can see where you're coming from!

Yeah, I think downgrading would absolutely help. At a certain point, the pixel density gains from 4K aren't that noticeable, especially on smaller screens. Upgrading to 1440p could give you a decent boost in frame rates, which is crucial since we know FPS tends to drop with newer games. Plus, you'll still enjoy good graphic quality while playing.
