Should I Dual Boot Linux Mint and Bazzite for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I've been exploring dual booting with Linux Mint, which has been my entry point into Linux as I transition away from Windows 10 before it reaches its end of life. Although Mint is user-friendly and was recommended for beginners like me, I've been running into issues with getting my games to work. My time for tinkering is limited due to my full-time job and parenting, so I'm looking for something that just works. I also do most of my gaming via Moonlight or Xbox Play on my phone using a Gamesir controller. I've heard about Bazzite and it seems like it could meet my needs better in the near future. However, I'm hesitant to fully switch away from Mint. Is it a good idea to dual boot Mint and Bazzite, or could that just lead to more problems? Thanks in advance!

Check out the resources page in our wiki; it could really help you! Make sure to back up regularly and maybe test things in a virtual machine before diving in. Also, be careful with commands—know what you’re about to execute!

The decision to dual boot really boils down to how you want to set it up. Are you thinking of installing on the same drive or separate drives? Just be mindful about space on the EFI partition and how it could get cluttered with multiple OSes. If you can, separate drives would make boot management much easier! Also, watch out for file permission issues when switching between distros for accessing your games. Ideally, keep your games on the same drive as the OS they're intended for.

I'd recommend just going all-in with Bazzite for your gaming. I use it for everything, and I hardly run into issues. Sure, you'll have to learn how Bazzite's unique system operates, but trust me, it's not that hard!

It's totally doable to dual boot! I've got multiple systems running, including ZorinOS, OpenSUSE, and even an Ubuntu MATE for emergency situations. It sounds like you have a decent setup, but you didn't mention your specs—let's hope your hardware can handle it! I used to switch around a lot too, but I've finally settled on my favorite distros. Good luck!

Thanks for the input! I'll try to grab my specs later once my kiddo is asleep.

Having a backup OS is a bit over the top, just get a USB with Dr. Parted for emergencies!
