Should I go for an RTX 3070, 2080 Ti, or hold out for a better option?

I'm on a budget of around £250 (about $330) for a GPU upgrade. My current GTX 970 has served me well for 8 years, but I'm looking for a significant performance boost. I'm curious if something newer and less power-hungry than the 2080 Ti, yet with more VRAM than the 3070, might hit that price point soon. Ideally, I want to continue using my existing PSU, but I might be asking for too much. Just so you know, my CPU, motherboard, and RAM are all new, while the rest of my setup is around 8 years old. I'm also planning to get a 1440p monitor within the next year.

I use a 3060 Ti and it's worked great for me! If you're into modern AAA games, though, you might need to consider the 5060 Ti or something like the AMD 7600 XT.

You might want to check out the Intel Arc B580. It's a solid option that's worth considering!

I'll definitely look into it, thanks!

Have the issues with budget-mid-range CPUs been resolved yet?

Are you set on Nvidia? There are some interesting AMD alternatives that could fit your budget better. Just a thought!

Not really, just looking for the best value at this price point, and Nvidia seemed to stand out.

What about the RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB? It's faster than the 3070 and very power-efficient, but I get that it's a bit over budget. Still, it's worth keeping an eye on the used market!

Just so you know, the 5060 Ti 16GB MSRP is about $100 over your budget.

Yeah, it's quite a bit over my budget for now. I could wait a year to see if it drops in price, which is why I asked.

If you're looking for something with good upscaling and more than 8GB VRAM, the 2080 Ti and Arc B580 are among the few options at £250. You could even undervolt it to manage power consumption, and your 550W PSU should handle it fine.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered a CPU that's already on the way.
