I have an AMD E1-7010 APU laptop that I'm hoping to revive just to play Stardew Valley. I've run into a few issues: Windows 7 and 8 are too outdated, and I couldn't get the video driver installed on Windows 10. I'm considering installing Linux Mint—does that sound like a good idea? Or should I try building Linux from scratch using Debian?

Honestly, that CPU is on the lower end for most distros. You might want to consider something even lighter, like Puppy Linux or Lubuntu. They could run smoother on your system compared to Mint.
I think it really comes down to how comfortable you are with Linux. If you're up for some tinkering, building Debian from scratch can be a rewarding experience, but it's definitely more involved than just installing Mint. If you're just looking to get up and running quickly for gaming, Mint could be the better option.
If you can run a Live USB, why not give Linux Mint a shot? It’s pretty straightforward, plus you can test it out without making any changes to your laptop yet. Just be aware that while testing in a Live environment is useful, it might not fully represent how it runs once installed, since it relies on RAM. But it’s a good way to see if the layout and desktop environment work for you!
