Hey folks! I'm building my first gaming PC this month, and I'm stuck choosing between two CPUs: the 9800X3D and the 9700X. I'm planning to pair whichever CPU I choose with an NVIDIA 5070TI. My gaming will be at 1440p, and I don't plan on going 4K anytime soon. I know the 9800X3D is technically better, but it's also 50% more expensive than the 9700X where I live, and the 7800X3D is another option that's 25% more than the 9700X. While I can afford the X3D variant, I'm hesitant to spend more than I need to. I typically play less demanding games like Genshin Impact, Subnautica, and Grounded, and I want to run them at max settings while being future-proof. Also, if I buy the 9800X3D now, I might have to wait until next month for my GPU. Would it be okay to set everything up now and add the GPU later? I'd love any thoughts or advice you all might have on my build or CPU choice! Thanks!

You can definitely save with the 9700X. I’ve paired mine with a 5070 FE at 1440p, and I've faced no issues! Just remember, at higher resolutions, the CPU impact lessens.
I run a 9700X with a 7800XT for my 1440p gaming and productivity, and it’s been smooth sailing! I was skeptical, but honestly, it performs fantastic.
That sounds reassuring! I was leaning too much toward the 9800X3D and maybe overthinking my needs.
Keep in mind if you plan to upgrade to 4K later, the CPU differences matter less. The 9700X is a great choice if you want to save some cash right now!
Definitely leaning toward the 9700X now! It feels like the smart choice for my gaming habits.
The 9700X will be totally fine for your use case, especially since you’re looking at 1440p gaming. I wouldn’t stress too much about the 9800X3D unless you really need that extra performance.
Appreciate your input! The 7800X3D is tempting, but I'm starting to feel like it might be a bit much for my needs.
Honestly, at this price point, I’d focus on the 9700X or the 7800X3D instead. If you’re not playing super intensive games, the 9700X can handle most titles just fine. Plus, it’s a lot cheaper!
Good to know! I used to enjoy strategy games, so I appreciate the heads up about the 9700X being solid for those too.
Thanks for that insight! It sounds like the 9700X has more than enough power for what I play.
