Should I Go with a Ryzen 5 8600G or a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for My First PC Build?

I'm planning my first PC build and am torn between two CPUs: the Ryzen 5 8600G or the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. I'm considering whether to invest in the Ryzen 5 8600G now to enter the AM5 platform and then upgrade later, or to build on the AM4 platform with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D or the Ryzen 5 5600X, keeping in mind the risk of AM4 becoming outdated in the future. I want this build to last me at least 5-6 years and mainly want to play some AAA games I've missed out on, but I also enjoy e-sports and working with heavier software like video editing and Blender. I've been researching for quite a while without coming to a firm conclusion. Any advice? Thanks!

If you're planning to get a high-end GPU like the 40 series, I'd definitely lean towards AM5. But rather than the 8600G, look for something like the Ryzen 7600X or even the 9600X if the price difference isn't too much. You'll get a much better experience with those!

Why avoid the 8600G? Here in Brazil, the 8xxx series is cheaper than the 7xxx series, but I'm kind of doubtful after seeing various benchmarks.

Just avoid AM4 entirely when building new, especially with a limited budget. An AM5 build with something like the 7500F or 7600 would be the way to go. Makes zero sense to backtrack into older tech right now.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the 5800X3D since it's been discontinued. Investing in an AM4 setup feels like throwing money into a dead platform. I'd recommend looking at something like the Ryzen 5 7600X for your first build. It's a good entry point to AM5, plus you'll have upgrade options later. If you can swing it, check out the 7600X3D or even the 7800X3D for enhanced performance in the long run!

I had no idea it was discontinued either! Makes total sense to avoid AM4 if upgrades are going to be hard to find.
