Should I go with a used 4070 or buy a new 5070?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I'm in a bit of a dilemma regarding graphics cards. I've been chatting with someone who's selling a used 4070 for $430 on Facebook Marketplace. The catch is, he hasn't provided any proof of purchase or functionality, which I always ask for. I've had a rough time with sellers ghosting after I request this info.

I get that buying used can be risky, especially from Facebook, but the price is tempting! On the other hand, I could go for a new 5070 Founders Edition at Best Buy for $549 (probably closer to $590 after tax). That's a significant price jump for me, but I'm all about getting good value for my money.

I'm currently using a 4060 Ti, but I really need something that can handle 1440p gaming better. Just to clarify, my 4060 Ti is the 8GB version. I'm aware of the potential downsides of losing warranty when going for used, but I'm considering my options. What do you all think? Should I take the risk on the used 4070 if I can get proof, or is the new 5070 the better bet over time? Thanks for any insights!

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend the used 4070 unless you can get solid proof from the seller. You can find new cards like the 9060XT 16GB for around $350-$400, which might be slightly slower but still a solid choice. For an additional $60-$80, the 5070 is likely the better investment in the long run.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it. I have tried the 9060XT, but it didn’t work out for me because of crashing... think I should just go for the 5070 instead?
