Should I Learn React While Preparing for Interviews?

Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit burnt out at my current job. I've been with the company for four years and recently moved to a smaller team after the other frontend engineer quit. Now it's just me, and most of my work has become pretty trivial, like changing colors or adjusting padding, which isn't challenging at all. I'm not learning anything new, and it has made me feel pretty down. I need to find a new job soon. I'm comfortable using Vue, but almost all the job listings I've seen require React experience, which I don't have since it's been about five years since I last used it. Here's my dilemma: I'm not interview ready and need to practice building things I might encounter in interviews, study system design, etc. Should I focus on preparing for interviews using Vue, or should I switch gears and learn React while also trying to get ready for interviews? I'm worried that juggling both learning React and preparing for interviews will take too long.

I totally get where you’re coming from! My last job started off awesome, but then I was stuck doing basic stuff while the new hire took over the interesting projects. It can be hard to keep improving when you feel your growth is stalled. Just know that many developers experience this at some point!

You can learn React on the job if necessary. The underlying concepts of web architecture are what truly matter. Even if you need to pick up another UI framework later, having a good grasp of the principles will help you. Focus on strengthening those fundamentals, and you can still utilize Vue for practice.

If you can find a Vue position, that might be the way to go for now. You’ll likely be more productive and happier in a framework you know. But yeah, learning React could also be beneficial in the long run, so it really depends on your immediate needs and comfort level.
