I'm going on a 5-hour drive with my PC, which has a Hyte Y70 case and a Phantom 7900 XTX GPU mounted vertically. I'm wondering if it's necessary to remove the GPU for the trip or if it should be fine as it is. Any thoughts?

If the PC is secured well in your car, it should be fine, but a lot depends on your driving style and road conditions. It's hard to predict how bumpy your drive will be.
If you still have the original box for the GPU, I'd recommend packing it in there for the trip. PCIe slots can be fragile, and removing the GPU will give you peace of mind.
Honestly, it takes longer to write a post about it than to just remove the GPU! You'd save yourself a lot of hassle if it stops working later. Just reinstalling it won't take long.
I'd seriously consider taking it out and putting it in a bag or a box that covers the slot. You never know when you'll need to brake suddenly, and a GPU can easily get damaged from just a little bump.
Exactly! A little precaution can save you a lot of money. It’s way more sensible to remove it than risk breaking a $1000 card.
When I relocated and drove for 5 hours, I removed my GPU just to be safe, even though I thought it would be fine. It only took a couple of minutes, and I was glad I did when I hit some rough patches on the road!
Totally agree on that. The last thing you want is to arrive and find out something went wrong because of a bumpy road. Better to be safe than sorry.
