I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my PC setup. Right now, I mainly do light gaming, university work, and photography editing. My system is currently running on a single stick of 16GB DDR4 RAM since the other one failed. This has caused some blue screens during heavy multitasking, and I'm not sure if it's due to RAM failure or PSU issues.
I'm debating whether I should just buy a new DDR4 stick (even though prices are high) or take the plunge to upgrade to DDR5 by getting a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM for better performance down the road. I'm also considering upgrading my PSU to a higher quality unit (around 750-850W) for stability, especially since I may return to streaming after university. Would it be wiser to invest in a DDR5 platform now or stick with DDR4? Should I upgrade the PSU first to rule out any instability issues? My current specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT, and I want to make sure I'm making the right choice for my workload, which heavily involves RAM and CPU rather than gaming.

Honestly, I’d suggest just getting a replacement stick for now, especially if you’re looking to keep costs down. And you could always upgrade the CPU later if needed. It’ll help your system last a bit longer without a huge investment.
It really depends on your budget. DDR5 prices are pretty steep right now, so it might not be the best time to invest in an entirely new setup. If you can manage it, replacing the DDR4 stick might be the easier short-term fix without breaking the bank. Plus, you could get a new CPU to pair with it later on.
Yeah, that makes sense. I think I might go for the replacement first to keep my system functioning.

Sounds like a plan! I think going for a new stick can buy me some time.
