Hey folks! I've been using my GTX 1070 for nearly 9 years now, and while I plan to upgrade it this year or next, I still want to keep it as a backup for another PC since it's holding up well. To be honest, my case is usually filled with dust, and I only clean it every couple of years, which I won't be doing with my new build. My temps seem alright though—under heavy gaming load, it hits around 71-72°C at 97-98% usage, and the fans are going at about 2632 rpm. The real issue for me is how loud it gets. So, do you think I should change the thermal paste and possibly the thermal pads? I've never done this before, and while swapping out thermal paste seems straightforward, the thermal pads look a bit complicated. Thanks for your help!

Honestly, if you're planning to change the card soon, it might not be worth the hassle. A good clean should do for now. Plus, if those thermal pads are as old as the card, they might rip when you take the heatsink off. You could get some new ones or even use thermal putty, which is easy to work with.
Yeah, I'd say it's worth considering changing the thermal paste, especially since it's been so long. The noise could be partly because the fans have to work harder to keep the temps in check. A repaste might help things quiet down a bit!
Before you go wild with repasting, make sure to clean out the dust first and ensure your case has good airflow. Don't cramp it in a tight space. Sometimes that makes a big difference!
Good point! I definitely need to do a thorough clean before making any changes.
