Hey everyone! I'm totally new to PC building, and I need some help. I currently have an HP OMEN Gaming Desktop that features an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB of HyperX RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070ti, and a 1TB SSD. I'm considering switching to a custom-built PC. My main question is whether it's worth it to reuse some parts from my current setup or if I should just go for a completely new build and sell the prebuilt one. If reusing is a good option, which parts should I keep, and what should I upgrade for better performance? On the other hand, if starting fresh is the way to go, what build recommendations do you have for a budget between $2,500 and $3,000? I'm really focused on strong gaming performance and future-proofing my setup. Thanks a ton!

Honestly, if you're looking to upgrade without going all-in, I’d recommend just swapping out the GPU for an RTX 5070Ti, which should cost around $800-900. That alone would give you a solid performance boost. You could also double your RAM to 32GB for only about $30 if you want. Just be sure your power supply is rated at 700W or more; if not, pick up a new one like the MSI MAG series for around $100. This way, you could achieve about 75% of the performance increase of a new $2500 build but at a fraction of the cost.
I think you're on the right path! The Ryzen 7 5800X is still a strong choice, especially if you upgrade your monitor to 1440p with at least 144Hz. Just grab the same RAM stick to bump it up to 32GB and go for that 5070Ti, 9070, or whatever’s cheapest that suits your gaming needs. It’ll give you a nice performance boost without breaking the bank.
So basically, I just need to replace the RAM and GPU? Is that straightforward? Could I get those parts today and actually see a good performance improvement?
Would you recommend a new motherboard or CPU cooler if I replace the GPU? Is the Ryzen 7 good enough for the 5070Ti?
