Should I Sell My 5700X3D for a GPU Upgrade?

I'm considering selling my 5700X3D CPU, which I can get around $300 for, and I also have a used 7800 XT 16GB that I might sell. I'm thinking about switching from a 5700X3D combined with a 7800 XT to a 5700X paired with a 9070 XT. I usually game at 1440p, and I'm contemplating if downgrading to a regular 5700X would be worth it if it means getting a better GPU like the 9070 XT. My main games are Rainbow Six Siege, which runs at high FPS, and some single-player survival games.

Upgrading to a new GPU will likely give you a bigger boost in performance over the CPU swap. Just keep in mind platform longevity if you plan to upgrade your whole setup in a couple of generations; the X3D might hold better long-term value. But if you're just switching CPUs right now, I'd say go for the GPU upgrade!

I appreciate it! I'm looking at doing a full system upgrade when AM6 comes out, so this helps.

Switching to the 5700X might not affect your FPS much, but you could see a slight drop in Rainbow 6 Siege, which is pretty CPU-intensive. Just remember to check if your power supply can handle the 9070 XT, as it pulls more power. If you're all set on the drivers and everything, it could be a sweet upgrade!

Good point! I've been considering if I actually need to upgrade since the 7800 XT is also solid. But if budget allows, pairing the 9070 with the 5700X could be a nice combo.

Honestly, I think your current setup is great! The 7800 XT is powerful enough, and you'll likely get minimal gains from switching to the 5700X. If you're feeling adventurous, you might even sell the 7800 XT and put those funds towards the 9070 XT, but I wouldn't rush it!

I say go for the upgrade! You rarely profit from old hardware sales anyway, so if it doesn’t cause too much hassle for you, take advantage of the opportunity! Just remember to disable BitLocker before selling anything.

If you're not planning comprehensive upgrades soon, keep the X3D. Your current rig is solid, and the performance gain from switching CPUs might not be worth it. With Rainbow 6 being so CPU-heavy, the X3D could be your best bet for high FPS.
