I've been working in a large company for 10 years, focusing on Cybersecurity and Networking, after starting as an IT Tech. I recently completed my BS in Network and Security Administration. Today, the HR director asked me to consider applying for the HR Coordinator position, which is opening up soon. They mentioned they appreciate my social skills and tech knowledge, as they want to integrate more technology within HR. The role would mean a significant pay increase of around $30k, but it feels like a complete shift in my career focus. I'm leaning towards applying, but it's such a departure from what I've been doing. I'm curious if anyone has made a similar jump and what your thoughts on this are. Thanks!

I made the switch from HR to IT and honestly, it's not as great as it sounds. HR can be a thankless job and there's often no clear career path. Plus, success there relies heavily on office politics. I'd be cautious about moving into a role that might not have the growth you're hoping for, despite it offering a higher salary.
Just make sure the title reflects a mix of IT and HR responsibilities. Grab the job for a better salary, but keep an eye on your responsibilities. If it leans too much towards HR, consider looking for a different role thereafter. Titles like 'HR IT Director' would be ideal.
I think it's strange there haven't been collaborations between HR and IT already. If you don’t have HR experience, what tech contributions can you really make? It might not be worth jumping into a role they could easily manage with better departmental communication.
Seems to me IT is really saturated these days. But if you feel you can bring tech into HR, maybe it’s worth a shot.
