Should I Spend an Extra $130 for an RX 6600 Over an RTX 3050?

Hey everyone! I've been diving into the GPU scene, and I keep seeing posts saying the RX 6600 is much better than the RTX 3050. However, many comments reference a price difference of only $30-$50, which isn't accurate for me—I'm looking at a $130 jump for the RX 6600. I could consider used options on eBay, but shipping from the USA can take a whole month, and getting a refund can be tough if something goes wrong. My goal is to build a budget gaming PC for 1080p at 60 fps with an i5 10400f. I'm okay with lowering some graphics settings to achieve that, as long as the visuals aren't terrible. I'm hoping to play titles like Cyberpunk2077, Elden Ring, AoE4, and the upcoming Gothic remake. Any advice?

If you're looking for 1080p gaming, I’d actually recommend checking out the 6650XT or the RX 7600 instead of just the 6600. They perform better and are only a little more expensive. The performance difference is noticeable, and you might end up enjoying the games more without compromising too much on settings. Just a thought!

But the difference between the RX 6600 and 6650 XT isn’t huge; keep that in mind.

Yeah, I checked, and the RX 7600 is just about $25 more than the 6600, which makes the extra cost worth it. You'll get better performance for sure.

Honestly, if you’re set on the RX 6600, just be aware that it may struggle with Cyberpunk. I know someone with a 3050 who plays it decently well thanks to DLSS, but overall, you might want to think about a slightly higher tier card if you want smooth gameplay on modern titles.

That’s true! My friend has a 3050 with an older CPU, and he gets around 50-60 fps on lower settings.

Cyberpunk isn’t super demanding if you avoid ray tracing. Both cards should handle 1080p fairly well, though.

The RX 6600 is generally seen as a stronger card and comparable to the GTX 3060. However, if you can find better alternatives like second-hand 2060 Super or 3060 models, that might be worthwhile too. They generally handle newer games better than the 6600 and 3050.

Good call! The 2060 Super especially has more memory, which is becoming important with newer games.

Exactly! Plus, you can look for friends or local sellers to find better deals.

I’d steer clear of the RTX 3050, especially the 6GB model—it’s quite underwhelming. If you can find an RX 7600 or even the 6700 for a reasonable price, those would serve you well in the long run. Just make sure to do some research on the performance next to the newer releases!

Right! With game optimization getting worse, 8GB might not cut it for long.

Agreed, consider what other games you really want to play. Don't go for a card that might limit your experience.
