Hey everyone! I'm looking to kick off my career in DevOps but I'm a bit lost on where to begin. I'm considering the RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) certification as a starting point. Do you think RHCSA is a solid foundation for jumping into DevOps, or would it be better to focus on something like AWS or CCNA instead? I'd really love some insights from folks who are already in the field. Thanks a lot!

I initially thought RHCSA would help with DevOps, but the real focus should be on Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and building CI/CD pipelines. If you’re working with cloud technologies, things shift a bit too. It's key to know Linux commands since many of these services run on Linux servers. The newer RHCSA versions have started including more container-related content, which could be useful.

Definitely go for it if it helps with troubleshooting! The more you know about Linux, the better positioned you are to deal with issues at the container or image level.

While RHCSA is more geared towards system administration, it definitely helps you become a better Linux admin. This can be beneficial for roles like SRE or in DevOps. It's pretty critical to understand how infrastructure and operations work for a solid DevOps foundation.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend starting with RHCSA for DevOps. If you're aiming for that path, you should be looking into learning tools like GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes. RHCSA might give you a base in Linux, but it won't equip you for the practical skills needed in DevOps.

The knowledge you gain while preparing for RHCSA is valuable, but the cert itself is not that crucial for DevOps. You might find the Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator to be a cheaper and equally beneficial alternative.
